What Happened to My Bright, Youthful Smile?
The appearance of your smile can diminish due to several factors.

- Tetracycline/Antibiotic Staining - Long duration of antibiotics during tooth formation in childhood.
- Tooth crowding
- Smaller tooth size or gaps between teeth
- Large, older fillings
- Pitted, poorly formed teeth
- Tooth decay
Options for Restoring your Smile in Grand Island
We are here to help! Waters Family Dentistry offers several services that can restore your smile. Dr. Waters or Dr. Crouch can visit with you during your examination to determine which options are best for your mouth.
As we age, our natural teeth are likely to become stained and darken. This occurs due to diet and the acidic breakdown of enamel. Unfortunately, this darkening can make us look older than we really are! Teeth Whitening is an effective, affordable way to counteract this process. We are happy to offer a program called “White For Life” that allows you to achieve and maintain a whiter, younger smile.(link to White for Life page)
Tooth Colored Fillings
Also known as composite resins, tooth-colored fillings are used to replace decayed or broken tooth structure in both the front and back of the mouth. They are good options for small and medium-sized fillings. They have a more natural appearance than amalgam or silver colored fillings but may not be as durable in certain situations. Dr. Waters or Dr. Crouch will advise what is best for your dental needs.
The process to place a tooth-colored filling is similar to that of placing an amalgam. However, it may take somewhat longer due to additional steps needed for composite resins. It averages 30 to 45 minutes per tooth to place this type of restoration. Following your appointment, you will be able to chew and eat normally.
Porcelain is a widely used dental material that is very strong and natural looking. It reflects light much like tooth enamel. This quality makes porcelain; a great choice for crowns in the front and back of the mouth. They can be placed when a larger portion of the tooth is cracked, broken, or decayed. In addition to having the appearance of your natural tooth, the crown will restore the function of the damaged tooth.
Veneers are tooth-colored restorations that fit on the outer surface of your teeth. They can be made from porcelain or composite material and are most often used to correct cosmetic imperfections in upper front teeth. Veneers can transform a smile!
The process for placing veneers will usually take two appointments. The dentist and the dental lab technician will consult with you to determine your preferred shade and shape of teeth. At the appointment when the teeth are prepared for the veneers, a small layer of the outer tooth is removed, and an impression is made to send to the dental lab. At the final appointment, the permanent veneers are placed.
